About Blog Posts
Your Blog Post is a convenient way to display updates to your store's blog posts. This links directly to the posts that you have updated in the Blog posts section of your myShopify homepage. This is a good place to discuss, in greater detail, what your store is currently doing or planning to do, personal news, updates to staff, etc.
Strong utilization of your blog posts can help create a more personable storefront environment. When visitors see and read this section of your store's website, they may feel more comfortable or relaxed about coming into a new store.
A blog that is frequently updated and shared may also serve as incentive for more frequently planned trips from customers that live a little further from your store. If your customers are regularly updated about events and news through the calendar and blog functions, you may see more interest and interaction.
Before you begin adding blogs and blog posts to your page, have you already created a blog and added posts to it?
Organizing Blog Posts
Finding and Editing Blog Posts
In order to find the customization screen for your store's webpage, and in order to organize your blog posts, please follow these steps:
- From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Themes
- Find and click Customize
- You will see the customization menu on the left of your screen. Click Blog Posts
- If you do not see Blog Posts, scroll to the bottom of the customization menu and select Add section
- From here, find and select Blog Posts to add the section to your page
You can only link one blog per Blog Posts section. If you would like to have multiple different blogs, not posts, linked, then you will need to add secondary Blog Posts sections to your page. This is a good tool to use for updating customers who have differing interests
Customizing Blog Posts
Once you have opened the side menu for editing blog posts, you will notice three categories of customization: Main Title, Blog, Posts.
Main Title
The main title is the name that you would like to give this specific section of blog posts. If you decide to use multiple blogs or create multiple Blog Posts sections, you will be able to name each of them differently, according to what your store sees as best.
Blog
From this category, you will be able to link the blog that you want to share in your Blog Posts section. Please remember that you can only like one blog here. You will encounter one of two scenarios when customizing your blog posts. Below you will see how to adjust and edit your blog posts based on these scenarios:
- If there is already a blog selected, it is most likely the default News blog. You can change this by clicking Change > Change blog and then selecting the blog you would like to add or clicking Create blog
- If there is no blog already selected, please click Select blog and choose the blog you would like to add or click Create blog
Posts
This category is focused on customizing how your customers will see the posts in your blog displayed on your store's webpage. There are five options of customization: Number of Posts Visible, Show Author, Show Date, Show Comment, Show 'View All' Button.
Posts
This option is focused on how many total blog posts will be visible on your webpage. Because the posts are displayed in groups of three, and there is no option for scrolling, the blog section will stack in rows of three. You can see an example of how six visible posts will look below:
If you do not have as many blog posts as you have chosen to display, only the number of posts you have published will be displayed. For example, if you have 5 blog posts and decide to show 6 posts on your page, there will be an empty area where no post is visible. This may cause a sense of imbalance, so please be aware of this
Show
The last four categories for customization are focused on showing differing bits of information about the posts you have chosen to share. Either of these categories has the option to Toggle On/Off. We recommend experimenting and figuring out what works best for your shop. Below you will see an example of three posts that have all four categories (Show Author, Show Date, Show Comment, Show 'View All' Button) switched on:
The 'View All' button will link to all of the posts in the selected blog
