Getting Started

When working in your Shopify online store, you will have the opportunity to create webpages in your Shopify Admin page. These webpages are filled with information that rarely changes. These pages are often frequently referenced or visited by customers; some examples include the About Us and Contact Us pages. A commonly utilized webpage used for keeping your customers updated is your Blog page. For more information on blogs, check out How to Create and Add a Blog.

This page will focus on adding and customizing pages. Below you will find:

  • Adding a New Webpage
  • Adding Content to a Webpage
  • Editing a Webpage
  • Editing the Search Engine Listing for a Webpage
  • Deleting a Webpage
  • Publishing / Unpublishing Webpages in Bulk

Adding a Webpage

When adding new webpages to your online store, remember to be intentional and clear about the page and its purpose when creating page titles. The webpage title will appear in the tab and/or title bar of browsers as well as in search engine results. For more information on how search engine results are displayed, check out Improving Search Engine Optimization.

In order to begin creating and adding webpages to your online store, follow these steps:

  1. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store
  2. From Online Store, select Pages
  3. From Pages, find and select the Add Page button in the top right of the screen
  4. From here, insert the appropriate page title and information
  5. Under the Visibility section, select the publication date. Select Hidden if you wish to keep the page invisible after publishing; if not set to hidden, this page will be visible as soon as you click Save
  6. Click Save

Select Set a Specific Publish Date in the Visibility section if you are wanting to publish at a later time. You can read more about controlling when your webpage is published in Future Publishing

Adding Content to a Webpage

When inputting information into a webpage's Content section, you will be utilizing Shopify's Rich Text Editor. This editor allows for input data to be displayed on your store's webpage in the same way that it has been input. The Rich Text Editor allows for formatting of text and text color through its various options. It also allows for several webpage elements to be inserted, such as:

  • Links
  • Tables
  • Images
  • Videos

HTML codes on your webpages can also be customized by selecting the Show HTML button to view and make any necessary changes. That will look like this:

Remember to click Save after adding any important content that your store will want to keep

For more information on the Rich Text Editor, check out Using the Rich Text Editor for Content.

Consider using this feature to embed various forms of media, such as gifs, videos, and blog posts

Links are good for both saving princesses from evil wizards (HIYAH) and for directing customers to specific webpages, whether on your store's site or elsewhere on the internet. This section will focus on the latter. In order to add a link to your page's Content field, follow these steps:

  1. In the Content field, enter the text that will become a link
  2. Highlight the linking text and select the Insert Link button
  3. Enter the linked web address in the Link To field. Utilize the descriptive Link Title to help with search engine optimization
  4. Select Insert Link
  5. Click Save

Add a Google Map to a Webpage

Shopify's Rich Text Editor allows for a Google Map to be added to your webpage's Content section. This may be a good idea to include in a webpage like your store's About Us page. In order to add a Google Map to your page, follow these steps:

  1. In Google Maps, insert the address you want to map
  2. Click the hamburger Menu icon next to the Google Maps search bar
  3. From the hamburger Menu, select Share or Embed Map > Embed a Map
  4. Choose the desired map size, then copy the code to embed. The HTML code begins with <iframe src=.
  5. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  6. From Pages, find the page you want to add the Google Map to
  7. In that page's Content section toolbar, find and select the Show HTML button
  8. Paste your Google Map code into the Content section. Placement of this code will determine its location on your store's page. Pasting this code before any previously added content will place the map at the top of the page. Pasting it after will display the map at the bottom of your store's page
  9. Select Show Editor to switch back to the standard webpage editor and see the embedded map
  10. Click Save

Editing a Webpage

If, after creating and publishing a webpage, you notice that there are areas that need to be revisited, whether for typos, updated or incorrect information, or anything else, don't worry! The option to reopen and edit webpages is available. In order to begin editing your store's webpages, follow these steps:

  1. From your MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  2. Find and select the page needing to be edited
  3. Make any necessary revisions
  4. Click Save

Editing the Search Engine Listing for a Webpage

You will also find the ability to customize and edit the way that your store's webpages will appear as search engine results. This is an important feature because it allows your store to control how your store's information will appear when listed as results in a search engine query; customizing this can bring in or push away potential new customers. In order to begin editing how your page's search engine listing appears, follow these steps:

  1. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  2. Find and select the webpage that you are interested in editing
  3. Find the Search Engine Listing Preview and select Edit Website SEO
  4. Fill in the Page Title field. This title will display as a search engine result. You can list up to 55 characters
  5. Fill in the Description field. This description works best when using specific Keywords and your business's name to help customers find and recognize this webpage. You can list up to 320 characters
  6. Fill in the URL and Handle field. This area allows for the complete customization of your page's web address. If web changes are made, remember to set up redirects from any old web addresses
  7. Click Save

URLs cannot contain spaces. For more information on handles and web design, check out Shopify's Webpage Basics

Deleting a Webpage

If a webpage is no longer needed and your store is aiming to permanently remove it, you can Delete this page. Please remember that this action cannot be undone. In order to delete a webpage, follow these steps:

  1. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  2. Find and select the webpage that you are aiming to delete
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the webpage customization and select Delete Page
  4. Select Delete

Publishing / Unpublishing Webpages in Bulk

Publishing Webpages in Bulk

If your store is only recently switching over to Shopify from another eCommerce site, you have the opportunity to transfer over and Publish webpages in bulk; this is a much more time-efficient means over individually recreating each webpage. In order to begin publishing webpages, follow these steps:

  1. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  2. Select the tick boxes next to the webpages you are wanting to select
  3. Once pages have been highlighted, select the drop-down arrow next to Visibility and select Visible
  4. These selected pages will be published and visible to your customers now

Remember to link your newly published webpages in order to maximize exposure

Unpublishing Webpages in Bulk

Likewise, if you find that you are wanting to remove particular webpages from your store's site, but not permanently, you may want to Unpublish them, either individually or in bulk. This is especially useful when transitioning between seasons and adjusting seasonal items.

  1. From your store's MyShopify page, select Online Store > Pages
  2. Select the tick boxes next to the webpages you are wanting to select
  3. Once pages have been highlighted, select the drop-down arrow next to Visibility and select Hidden
  4. These selected pages will be unpublished and hidden from your customers' view
