Getting Started


Utilizing the Map block on your webpage is a surefire way to help enable customers who are visiting your website make a trip to your physical store. You can also utilize this section for handling potential returns or any other activities requiring an address or physical location.


Finding Map Settings

In order to begin customizing this section, follow these steps:

  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Themes
  2. Find and click Customize
  3. You will see the customization menu on the left of your screen. Find and select Map
  4. If you do not see Map, scroll to the bottom of the customization menu and select Add section
  5. From here, find and select Map to add the block to your page


Customizing Map Settings

Once you have opened the customization tab for the Map, you will find several areas for customization. These include:

  • Heading
  • Map Link Label
  • Google Maps API Key
  • Map Zoom
  • Allow to Move the Map
  • Show Map Controls
  • Map Style
  • Image


Heading

This section includes a text box allowing for the customization of a content heading. This heading will be positioned to the left and above the map being displayed in the block. For the Heading, we recommend something attention grabbing and catchy to capture the eye of customers. 


This section includes a text box allowing for the customization of the message that will appear on your block's content Link. This Map Link Label will link directly to the specified map.


Google Maps API Key

This section includes a text box allowing for a registered Google API key to be linked to your Map block. For more information on creating and linking this key, check out Register a Google Maps API Key.


Map Zoom

This section includes a scrolling cline ranging from 12 to 20. These numbers represent the degree to which your attached map is zoomed in. We recommend playing around with these features to find the setting that best fits your store.


Allow to Move the Map

This section includes a tick box allowing for the movement of the map when selected. When deselected, the map will remain static and immovable. Allowing movement of the map may allow for a better sense of store location on the part of the customer. We recommend playing around with these features to find the setting that best fits your store.


Show Map Controls

This section includes a tick box allowing for the presence of a map key detailing how to navigate the map in the block. We recommend playing around with these features to find the setting that best fits your store.


Map Style

This section includes a drop-down list allowing for customization of the style of your map. The styles are: Standard, Silver, Retro, Dark, Night, and Aubergine. We recommend playing around with these features and styles in order to find the features that best fit your store's page. 


Image

In order to add a new image to your block, click Select Image. From here you can upload or select the image your store wishes to display alongside your Map. Please note that the recommended image size is beneath this section. It will look something like this: 



If your image doesn't meet these specifications, it will not properly fit.


The recommended image size is calculated as the optimal size across many possible screen sizes (PC monitors of differing sizes, Mac, mobile, tablet, etc.)


After you have chosen your image, you will notice another customization option become available: Add alt text.


Adding alt text is a good way for your to include addition descriptions that will appear just beneath your icon. You can add up to 255 characters to this alt text feature


Finding Store Items

Following the customization of the Map settings, you will want to create and fully customize the Store blocks displayed on your page. In order to do begin doing so, please follow these steps:

  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Themes
  2. Find and click Customize
  3. You will see the customization menu on the left of your screen. Find Map
  4. If you do not see Map, scroll to the bottom of the customization menu and select Add section
  5. From here, find and select Map to add the block to your page
  6. From Map, select the drop down arrow and select Add Store
  7. Select the new item block


Adding and Customizing Store Items

Once you have opened your new item block, you will want to begin by customizing and clearly presenting your store's map blocks. You will also notice the ability to add up to three separate stores here. As you begin this process, you will notice the following categories for customization:

  • Store Name
  • Address
  • Hours
  • Map Address


Store Name

This section includes a text box allowing for the input of the specific store's name.


Address

This section includes a text box allowing for the input of the specific store's address.


Hours

This section includes a text box allowing for the input of the specific store's operating hours.


Map Address

This section includes a text box allowing for the input of the specific store's address. The address input into this area will be automatically found and linked to Google Maps.
