About the Products Block


Your products block is a visual means for your customer to browse through a selection of products that your store has chosen to highlight. These products are generally organized in collections. The products you choose to share can vary, though it is recommended that you use this space to highlight popular or upcoming products.


While you can display several products in your block, each Products Block section can only display up to 20 products. If you wish to show more, you will need to select Add section and add a second Products Block


A Products Block differs from a Collection List in presentation. While both are dependent on collections, the Products Block will display each of the products within a collection, whereas the Collection List only shows and links the collection as a whole


Organizing the Products Block


Finding and Editing Products Block

In order to find the customization screen for your store's webpage, and in order to organize your products block, please follow these steps:

  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Themes
  2. Find and click Customize
  3. You will see the customization menu on the left of your screen. Click the drop-down arrow to the left of Products Block
  4. If you do not see Products Block, scroll to the bottom of the customization menu and select Add section
  5. From here, find and select Products Block to add the section to your page


Adding Products to the Block

Before you begin to customize the section as a whole, you will need to begin adding the products that you wish to display. To add your product, please click Add Products Block. At this point, there will be no titles; each time you click Add Products Block, you will add an empty Products Block. To edit each block, please click Products Block > Products Block. From here, you can can click Products Block > Select Collection to choose what is displayed. Please also notice an option to Create Collection if the collection you are looking for have not been created yet.


You will also notice a section titled Product Tab Title. This is here so that you can give a categorical name to the tab of products you are displaying. With every products block you add, you will be creating a new tab on your homepage. Each tab displays all of the products in the collection you have assigned to the product block. 


Some example tab names may include MTG, Pokémon, Flesh & Blood, etc.


If you do not want to include tabs, but prefer to create a separate Products Block for each collection list,  you can keep your Product Tab Title clear. If you have only one Products Block and have given it no name, but have assigned a collection to it, then that collection will fall under the Main Title. This is a good strategy for filling out and simplifying your homepage



At the bottom of your Products Block you will notice a box titled Show 'View All' Button. This is a means of toggling On/Off a button beneath each individual tab that links to the entire collection you chose for the products block tab.


After Adding Products Blocks

Organizing Collection Order

After you have finished adding all of your products, you can adjust the order that the tabs are shown in (from left to right) by dragging and reordering them using the 6 dot symbol to the right of the products blocks. You can see this symbol here:


Customizing Products Block Presentation

After you have finished adding and organizing your products blocks, the last step to consider is how you wish to present  them. In order to do this, please click on Products Block. Here you will see several options for customization: 

  • Main Title
  • Total Products From Collection
  • Max Products Columns For Mobile View
  • Max Products Columns For Small Tablet View
  • Max Products Columns For Tablet View
  • Max Products Columns For Laptop View
  • Max Products Columns For Desktop View
  • Max Products Rows


Customizations made in the overarching Products Block will affect all of the products block tabs


Main Title

This is the name under which all of the products block tabs will be labeled.


An example for a Main Title could be TCG Singles, with each products block tab being a collection containing TCG singles from different games, such as MTG, Pokémon, Flesh & Blood, etc.

 

Total Products From Collection

Here you have the ability to choose between 8 and 20 products to display from your collection. If you are unable to display every product in the collection, it is recommended that you make use of the 'View All' Button.


Max Products Columns For ... View

Each of these five sections deal with how your webpage will display the Products Block section across differing devices. This section is specifically focused on how many columns of items will be displayed. 


Please also note that other factors, such as screen size, can affect the way that these are displayed. Ultimately, you and your store can customize, order, and test how these are viewed across different platforms.


Max Product Rows

This section is focused on how many rows of products will be displayed. The number of rows, unlike columns, is consistent across all devices.
