Navigating with Menus


Getting Started


Menus are a helpful tool that allows your customers to quickly and easily navigate your online store. There are many options available to creating and customizing menus that fit the needs of both your store and your customers. Your page will have two default menus: Main menu and Footer menu. The number of available menus depends on the theme your store has chosen, but each will have these two menus as their default.

Menu Items are links to anything that you may want to draw your customers' attentions towards. For example, they may be:

  • Collections
  • Webpages
  • Products
  • Blog Posts
  • Policies

It is important to note that, in most cases, Menu Items are things that your store will need to have created before hand, such as with Collections.

Managing Menus


Adding Menu Items


In order to add a menu item, please follow these steps:


  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Navigation
  2. From the Navigation page, click the title of the menu you want to edit
  3. Click Add menu item
  4. Enter a name for the menu item (it can include special characters or emojis)
  5. If you select a collection, you can add tags so that only items matching your tags are displayed 
  6. Click the Link field
    • Here you can add an address for an external website or choose one of many Links:
      • Home - your online store's home page

      • Collections - a specific collection or all collections

      • Products - a specific product or all products

      • Pages - a webpage on your online store

      • Blogs - a blog on your online store

      • Blog posts - a blog post on your online store

      • Policies - one of your store policies

  7. If you select a collection, you can add tags so that only items matching your tags are displayed
  8. If you select a link type, you must choose a specific destination. For example, when you click Home, the destination automatically redirects to your store's homepage.
  9. Click Add to save your menu item
  10. Click Save menu


Editing Menu Items


In order to edit a menu item, please follow these steps:


  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Navigation
  2. Click the menu that includes the item you wish you edit
  3. In the Menu items section, find the name of the item and click Edit
  4. Make your changes:
    • To change the name, enter text into the Name field
    • To edit an item's destination, select the x in the Link field and then enter or select the new destination
  5. Click Apply changes
  6. Click Save menu


Removing Menu Items


In order to remove a menu item, please follow these steps:


  1. From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Navigation
  2. Click Delete besides the menu item that you want to remove
  3. Click Remove to confirm
  4. Click Save menu
